The aim of this special issue is to highlight recent advances in biomaterial- and
cell-based bone regeneration for large-size defects, complex fractures and fractures
at risk of infection. The special issue is introduced by two comprehensive reviews,
with Ganguly et al. [
[1]
] focussed on polymeric materials for critical-size long bone defect regeneration and
Panagiotopoulou et al. [
[2]
] - on bone adhesives. The use of bone adhesives is becoming promising, particularly
for highly fragmented fractures, bone voids and for promoting osseointegration, and
the review describes the essential properties of adhesives in fracture treatment.
Regarding the polymeric materials, Gangluly et al. summarises recent advances in electrospining
and 3D printing technologies, for the manufacture of membrane wraps for bone quided
regeneration and whole implants, respectively. To read this article in full you will need to make a payment
